Needle Fasciotomy

Needle Fasciotomy is a simple treatment intervention which is done under local anaesthetic in the out-patient setting or as a day case in theatres in selected cases of Dupuytren’s Contracture. It is carried out using a needle which divides the tight band to correct the deformity of fingers. The advantage of the procedure is its simplicity and that results are achieved in minutes with minimum intervention and no underlying scarring. The risks are very low. It can be repeated if necessary. The procedure takes only minutes and satisfactory results are achieved in most patients. Patient satisfaction is very high simply because an admission to hospital and anaesthetic is avoided. The correction achieved if not perfect is very fair and immediate. The only occasional complication is that a puncture in the skin may split to form a small wound which heals in a few days.
